We are proud to announce the online publication of the review article “Shared decision making for the allergist” in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, October 2018. Dr. Steven was the second author for this publication in recognition of his contribution of the general design of the user interface. A longtime strong believer in the need for patients to understand all of their treatment options for a given condition, Dr. Steven was honored to have been chosen for the committee writing the first Shared Decision-Making (SDM) tool sponsored by the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology in conjunction with the Asthma & Allergy Network. This first tool focused on the various options patients have for allergen immunotherapy (AIT), a general process for decreasing their allergic reactivity. The tool is designed to present all of the currently available options for AIT as well as the risks, benefits and costs of each, in a way that is easy to understand down to a fifth grade reading level.
